In 1998, Chief Executive Officer Gary Kale and Chief Operating Officer Carl Hubbard opened Heritage Equipment, Inc., with less than 15 employees, Kale and Hubbard began a journey to raise the standard of Truck Service in southern West Virginia. In addition to providing Truck Service, they both envisioned the need for Off-Road Coal Transportation in the coal fields and predicted that this need would only increase in the years to come.

Ten years later, Heritage Equipment, Inc., has expanded to over 100 employees and millions of dollars in parts inventory. Services are now provided in threelocations throughout West Virginia and Kentucky, as well as a Featherlite Trailer Dealership in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Heritage Equipment, Inc., provides Complete Truck Service, New and Used Parts for all Truck makes, as well as new and used class 4-8 Truck Sales for the Western Star and Sterling brands.

Heritage Equipment, Inc., under the direction of Gary Kale and Carl Hubbard, was instrumental in the design and marketing of the “Planetary-Drive” coal hauler, along with Western Star and ALFAB, for the West Virginia and Kentucky Coal Fields. The "Planetary", as it is known in the Coal Fields, is the Western Star 6900 XD. This particular Western Star Truck is a specialized, Extreme Duty Truck designed specifically to transport Coal in Severe Service, Off-Highway applications.
